Where to Eat on Melrose Avenue: The Best Spots for Every Meal

Where to Eat on Melrose Avenue: The Best Spots for Every Meal
Melissa Yearta

Melrose Avenue gets a lot of attention for its shopping — the boutiques, the vintage finds, the energy of the street itself. But what a lot of people don't talk about is how good the food scene is here. Whether you're fueling up before a full day of browsing or winding down after, there are some genuinely great places to eat within easy walking distance of everything on the strip.

This is our honest, neighborhood guide — no fluff, just the spots we'd actually recommend to a friend visiting for the day.

Before You Shop: Breakfast & Brunch

Blu Jam Café 7371 Melrose Ave

This place has been an institution on Melrose since 2006, and for good reason. Chef Kamil Majer built it on a simple premise: fresh, local ingredients, nothing frozen, everything made to order. The menu is European-influenced with a California twist — think crunchy French toast with fresh berries and housemade vanilla bean sauce, or creative egg dishes you won't find anywhere else. Come early on weekends or expect a wait. Worth it.

Oui Melrose 7465 Melrose Ave

If you're looking for something a little more buzzy, Oui Melrose is the spot. Known for their pastries, sandwiches, and a menu that rotates with the seasons, it's a great choice for a lighter start to the day. The Melrose Spritz has become something of a signature order. Lively, a little indulgent, very LA.

Republique 624 S La Brea Ave

Technically just off Melrose, but close enough that we'd be doing you a disservice not to mention it. Republique is one of the best brunch spots in Los Angeles, full stop — housed in a stunning 1929 Charlie Chaplin building with incredible pastries and a Californian menu that changes with the seasons. If you want to make a morning of it, start here.

Midday: Lunch Spots Worth Stopping For

Petit Trois 718 N Highland Ave

At the corner of Melrose and Highland, Petit Trois is a tiny French bistro that punches well above its weight. The menu is unapologetically classic — steak frites, omelettes, a very good burger — and the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious. Perfect for a proper sit-down lunch in the middle of a shopping day.

Zinqué 8684 Melrose Ave

A French-California café that does the casual lunch thing really well. Great for salads, tartines, wine by the glass, and people-watching from the patio. The vibe is relaxed and the food is consistently solid — a good pick when you want something lighter.

The Butcher's Daughter 1205 Abbot Kinney Blvd (WeHo-adjacent)

Plant-forward, bright, and genuinely delicious. If you're leaning toward something healthy and vegetable-driven, this is the call. Smoothies, grain bowls, and creative plant-based dishes in an airy space.

Zira Uzbek Kitchen 7422 Melrose Ave

One of the more unexpected finds on the street. Zira is a colorful, family-owned Uzbek restaurant serving dishes you probably haven't had before — lula kebab, plov, freshly baked bread. Casual enough for a weekday lunch, interesting enough to remember. A hidden gem worth knowing about.

After Shopping: Dinner & Evening Options

Chi Spacca 6610 Melrose Ave

Part of Nancy Silverton's Mozza complex at Melrose and Highland, Chi Spacca is the quieter, more intimate sibling to Osteria Mozza — and some regulars think it's actually the best of the three. It's an Italian steakhouse in a small red dining room, and the menu is built around serious meat, excellent wine, and antipasto. Reserve ahead.

Lala's Argentine Grill 7229 Melrose Ave

A long-standing neighborhood favorite on Melrose, Lala's has the feel of a local secret even though it's been around for years. A back patio with romantic lighting, an extensive Argentinian wine list, and beautifully cooked meat. Unpretentious and reliably great.

The Benjamin 7174 Melrose Ave

An Art Deco-inspired spot with a wrap-around bar, plush green booths, and a retro-American menu that feels fresh rather than gimmicky. Known for their shrimp cocktail, crab beignets, and a very good martini. If you're looking for a proper evening out on Melrose, this delivers.

Stir Crazy 6903 Melrose Ave

Natural wine, snacky plates, a rotating menu with standout dishes like rockfish carpaccio and flaky black cod. The vibe is laid-back and a little literary — the kind of bar where you intend to stay for one glass and end up closing the place.

Quick Bites & Coffee

Frenz Coffee 5770 Melrose Ave, Suite 101 (near Vine)

A neighborhood coffee spot with a loyal following. Good for a quick caffeine stop between shops, with a menu that goes beyond the standard espresso offerings.

Ghost Sando Shop 7801 Melrose Ave, Unit 1 A

If you find yourself hungry and in a hurry, Ghost Sando makes some of the more memorable sandwiches in the area. Simple format, high quality.

How to Plan Your Day

The Melrose stretch is long — it runs through several neighborhoods — so how you eat depends on where you're spending your time. If you're in the heart of it, between La Brea and Fairfax, you have the most options within easy walking distance.

A good template for a full day:

  • Morning: Blu Jam or Oui Melrose to start
  • Midday: Petit Trois or Zira for a proper lunch
  • Shopping: Work in a coffee stop at Frenz
  • Evening: Chi Spacca or Lala's for dinner

If you're shopping the stretch near Melrose and Martel, HYPEACH is right in the neighborhood — stop in between meals. We're at 8360 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, and we have free parking in our back lot.

A Few Practical Notes

Most of these spots have street parking on Melrose, though it can be tight during peak hours. Metered spots turn over regularly — check our [Melrose Avenue Parking Guide](link to parking post) for the best lots and strategies if you're planning a full day. Most restaurants in this area are walk-in friendly for lunch; dinner spots like Chi Spacca and Republique are worth reserving ahead, especially on weekends.

Melrose rewards the wanderer. Build in a little extra time, eat somewhere interesting, and let the street do its thing.
